The top 2 female amateurs in the field at the USGA Women’s Open Championship this year are former Spirit players: Hannah O’Sullivan (USA-2015) and Leona Maguire (Ireland-2013). Albane Valenzula (Switzerland-2015) is also one of the top ranked amateurs in the field that is a former Spirit player.
The championship is being played at the 6,784 par 72 CordeValle Golf Course in San Martin, CA.
The 71st U.S. Women’s Open will include 25 amateurs among its 156 contestants. That’s down from a record 36 in 2014, but on par with other recent years. 2015 U.S. Women’s Amateur champion Hannah O’Sullivan, the world’s top-ranked amateur, headlines the group along with No. 2 Leona Maguire.
Ireland’s Maguire and Albane Valenzuela of Switzerland are among the 60 players currently listed on the Olympic Ranking.
