Not too long ago Whispering Pines Golf Club was dubbed the best-kept secret in Texas golf. The secret no longer remains as the statewide panelists from The Dallas Morning News have voted Whispering Pines Golf Club as the Best Golf Course in Texas for the eighth straight year. Since 1989 the Dallas Morning News has issued the Best in Texas Golf rankings and Whispering Pines now holds the record for the most consecutive years ranked number one in the state.
“We are extremely honored to be recognized by the top players and golf enthusiasts in Texas as being the best in Texas. There are so many great golf courses in Texas and to be voted #1 for eight straight years is a true testament to the level of commitment by Corby and Barbara Robertson and our philanthropic membership,” says Eric Fredricksen, President of The Spirit Golf Association, the non-profit organization responsible for all membership and tournament services.
The top ten courses recognized in the Dallas Morning News – Texas Golf 2013 publication are: (1) Whispering Pines Golf Club, Trinity. (2) Dallas National Golf Club, Dallas. (3) Colonial Country Club, Fort Worth. (4) Preston Trail Golf Club, Dallas. (5) Cordillera Ranch, Boerne. (6) Vaquero Club, Westlake. (7) Escondido, Horseshoe Bay. (8) Club at Carlton Woods, Nicklaus Course, The Woodlands. (9) Boot Ranch, Fredericksburg.   (10) Brook Hollow Golf Club, Dallas.
Whispering Pines also led the hit parade in the ‘Texas’ Most Beautiful Golf Holes’ and ‘Texas’ 18 Best Golf Holes’ rankings. Holes #5, #7, #13, #14, #15 and #18 made the Most Beautiful list. Those six holes along with #17 made the ‘Best 18 Holes’ list. No other course in Texas had more holes recognized in either ranking.
The Dallas Morning News rankings are recognized as the most prestigious golf rankings in Texas with over 100 golf enthusiasts from across the Lone Star State submitting votes. A panel of 120 professional and amateur golf enthusiasts from across Texas submits votes to comprise the rankings.  Each panelist is required to vote only for the courses they play, using a 10-point ranking criteria based on versatility, shot making, remembrance, beauty, conditioning, and overall enjoyment.
